Adaptivity of ideology/Multiscale networks
Adaptivity of ideology
Project Idea
We intend to study the adaptivity of Ideology at hand of a stylized adaptive network model. Nodes of the Network represent individuals and links represent friendship/acquaintance relations that serve for information exchange and social affirmation.
With that regard, we model the *spread* of two types of 'opinions' on the network. * One, where there is an objectively _right_ value, that can be learned and and whose knowledge is useful (provides utility) for the individual and * one, where the usefulness of the opinion lies in its conformity with the opinions of one’s neighbors.
We also intend to model the *adaptation* of the network in both of these processes such that the network structure evolves subject to two competing effects: 1) Rewiring with the aim of better information diffusion and. 2) Rewiring with the aim of conformity to neighbors.
The research question is: How do these processes interfere with one another - when is living in a 'filter bubble' a rewarding strategy and what does that mean for information spreading. A related question could be how groups that are structured in a manner resulting from the above process perform in group decision tasks like voting.
